FA Cup 5th Round + Championship

FA Cup Fifth Round

Manchester United vs Manchester City

1-4

Our FORTE Red Devils, Leah Galton and Alessia Russo started on both wings for United in this FA Cup Manchester Derby. Fresh from Senior international duty for Arnold Clark Cup winners, England, Russo was looking to take her excellent form into this match. United started the better side, dominating possession, finding the breakthrough from a well-placed corner from their skipper. However, City came flying out in the second half scoring three goals in 10 minutes less than 5 minutes after the restart. After that, the Blues managed to make matters worse for United scoring their 4th of the day as they came out big winners in the end.

Chelsea vs Leicester City

7-0

England U23 International, Molly Pike started for Leicester in this tough day for her side against reigning champions and WSL leaders, Chelsea. The Foxes received a red card in the 17th minute and from there, Chelsea didn’t hold back, scoring 7 goals in clinical fashion as Leicester just couldn’t keep up with them.

Reading Women vs West Ham United

0-1

Lois Joel made a late appearance in extra time just before West Ham scored the equaliser in this tightly contested FA Cup tie. The first 90 minutes were up and down with both sides creating chances but not putting them away. In the end, West Ham managed to secure the place in the FA Cup quarter finals by putting away a chance from a corner.

FA Women’s Championship

London City vs Bristol City

2-3

Aimee Palmer and Lia Cataldo both started for Bristol City, their side scored first from the penalty spot, but London City equalised shortly after a goal mouth scramble. In a busy second half, City scored two in quick succession with Palmer converting her free kick with great precision and ease from a difficult angle. London scored a late goal to make it 3-2 but it was too little too late as Bristol took home the 3 points.

Sunderland vs Crystal Palace

0-1

We had 3 FORTE players start for Palace in this big game for both sides with Issy Sibley starting for the first time alongside Aimee Everett and Millie Farrow for The Eagles. Sunderland started very well, hitting the woodwork and forcing saves by their opposition’s keeper. Crystal Palace hit the post too after Farrow made a powerful driving run from the midfield, with a give and go with fellow FORTE players, Sibley which resulted in Farrow hitting the woodwork. Two of our players were involved with the winning goal as Sibley made another lovely pass from the right flank up to her striker who laid it off to Everett, who then provided the assist for the goal.

Blackburn Rovers vs Lewes

1-0

Annabel Blanchard was in action during Blackburn’s win over Zoe Cross and her Lewes side. Blanchard played some nice passes as her side managed to secure the 3 points from a nicely taken goal after a freekick. The win sees them move up to 9th place in the table, just one point above Sunderland.
